Adamstown, PA – The Adamstown Area Library Board is pleased to announce that Carolyn Reiste has been appointed as their new library director. Her position was recently vacated by Kathy Thren who retired at the end of July.
Reiste is very excited to accept the position as library director. She realizes that the Adamstown community really needs a new building—one with ample room in providing a variety of welcoming spaces for all ages. “Libraries must follow the trends that are happening in many areas of the country where people of all ages have access to customer-oriented community spaces. The public library should be a place that feels like home to them.” She cites a sampling of needs that a library can accommodate: parents looking for a place to meet with other families; children finding the library as an extension of their school experience to enhance learning achievement; and entrepreneurs looking for information to grow and best manage their businesses. She reflects, “As I grow as a librarian, I look forward to growing the library!”
Before coming to Adamstown, Carolyn served as Head of Circulation at the Bala Cynwyd Library where she had been on staff since December 2015. In this position her responsibilities included collection development as well as managing 26 staff members. Her duties as Head of Circulation also in involved scheduling, dispute resolution, and patron assistance. During her time there, she implemented Library Management System procedures that enhanced patron experiences, which included processing materials using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification).
In 2015 she held a position at the Wissahickon Valley Public Library in Blue Bell, PA where she helped develop a Picture Book Collection. Reiste holds an MSLS degree in Library and Information Science, which she earned at Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She received a BA in English at Grove City College before pursuing her Master’s Degree.
