The Manheim Township Board of Commissioners has named Joyce Sands Executive Director of the Manheim Township Public Library. She replaces Katrina Anderson who retired earlier this year. A nationwide search was conducted and Ms. Sands was selected by a committee comprised of Manheim Township Public Library employees, Library foundation Board members, and Library staff. She will join Manheim Township Public Library as its Executive Director on September 18, 2017.
Ms. Sands earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Master of Science degree in Library Science. She states, “I chose librarianship as a profession because of my belief in the power of public libraries to elevate individuals and communities.” Ms. Sands has served in various capacities throughout her career including Youth Services Librarian Reference Librarian, District Consultant, Deputy Director and, most recently, Director of Public Services. She has extensive management, administrative, and financial experience. Ms. Sands was responsible for implementation of innovative library services including a business center and an autism resource center. Her experience and record of accomplishments made her ideally suited to lead Manheim Township Public Library into the future.
“Understanding the community and responding to its needs will be a top priority” said Ms. Sands, who is looking forward to her first day on the job. “Working with the Township Commissioners, Library Board, and staff, we will ensure that the Library continues to be a vital part of, as well as a source of pride for, the Manheim Township community.”
