What do a middle school student who enjoys reading graphic novels and an elderly patron who prefers listening to audiobooks have in common? Both are patrons of the Library System of Lancaster County Bookmobile, which makes stops in their community.
Most stops occur once a month and are anywhere from thirty to ninety minutes in length, depending on the community’s needs. Patrons can enjoy library services including: month-long checkouts for all items, holds for items available in the Lancaster County library system, interlibrary loan services for items unavailable in the county system, assistance with LYNX eResources, personalized book recommendations, and summer reading materials.
The Bookmobile has more than just books! We can customize our carts based on the stop so that adult patrons can browse new releases, large print, audiobook CDs, DVDs, and museum passes. Youth patrons are invited to check out picture books, graphic novels, juvenile series, and more.
With around 45 stops each month, the Bookmobile is committed to serving the Lancaster area, focusing on locations where it might be hard for people to access their local public library. This includes community stops, where patrons get onto the truck, retirement home stops, where carts are unloaded for accessible browsing, and one-time events like the ODC Food Truck Festival.
