
Teen Summer Zine is an award-winning program for tweens and teens ages 12-19. Offered in conjunction with the Local Libraries of Lancaster County, the program brings together mentor authors and artists, a celebration of the hand-made roots of zines, and the opportunity to help create a zine!
Students ages 12-19 will learn from local arts professionals while creating their own hand-made publications that can include comics, fan art and fan fiction, poetry, collage, and illustrations. All art and writing materials will be provided, along with snacks! Students may submit their favorite pieces for publication into a county-wide digital zine that will be available for checkout through Libby at the end of the summer.

Meet the 2026 Authors and Artists!
Lindsay Bandy

Lindsay Bandy writes poetry, fiction, and nonfiction for teens, including the 2024 Carolyn W. Field Honor-winning novel “Inevitable Fate.” She has worked in public and school libraries, served in various roles with the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and teaches writing classes for students of all ages. She lives in Lancaster County with her husband, two daughters, two cats, and a growing collection of houseplants.
Lindsay is the creator of the Teen Summer Zine program and will be hosting each session.
Jamar Nicholas

Jamar Nicholas is an award-winning, Philadelphia-based artist and educator, dedicating his career to helping young people realize the power of visual narrative. He has taught and lectured on the topic of comics creation at numerous institutions, dedicating his career to empowering young people to create their own cartoons and comics.
Jamar aims to bring awareness to anti-bullying, healing, positive images of people of color, the idea that everyone can be a hero, channeled through images and art of the every-person archetype.

Ciana Malchione

Ciana Malchione is an illustrator and arts educator, originally from Pennsylvania and now based in NYC. Currently, she serves as the Assistant Director of Cooper Union’s Saturday Program, a historic art program offering free art and architecture classes to New York City public high school students on Saturdays. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from Cooper Union, a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Queens College, and attended Solanco High School in Lancaster County.
