The Library System of Lancaster County is pleased to announce that they will hold their Annual Meeting at the Manheim Township Public Library, 595 Granite Run Road, Lancaster on Wednesday, April 19 at 6:00 pm, while the program will begin at 7:00 pm. This year’s program topic will be “Community Engagement” presented by Douglas Knight. Keeping with the theme of community engagement, this event is an opportunity for the Public Libraries to recognize their staff, volunteers and trustees with special service awards. Award winners honored for their service to public libraries exemplify outstanding service and engagement to their library community.
About the Program Presenter…
Douglas Knight is returning this year as our program speaker to follow up on the timely suggestions for empowering public library leaders that he presented last year! He is a coach and consultant who works with non-profits, government leaders, and education institutions who are seeking a better way to connect to their communities’ assets and resources. He has presented at conferences, seminars and workshops all across the country.

The Annual Business meeting starts at 6:30 pm and the Special Program & Awards Presentation begins at 7:00 pm. The event is open to the public, so anyone interested in the future of Lancaster County’s public libraries may wish to attend.
Election and Installation of Board Members
Votes for the Library System’s Board officers for 2017 will take place at the business-meeting portion of the event. The 2017 board members include Diane Tannehill, Brandon Danz, Andre Fouchet, Christina Diehl, Rich Frerichs and G. Kenneth Kohlmaier.
Russell H. Miller will be stepping off the board this year since his term has expired. The County Commissioners appointed Jeanne Grimsley as the new board member who will replace Russ Miller next month. Ms. Grimsley’s term will run from April 30, 2017 through April 30, 2020.
New Board Member Bio
Jeanne Grimsley has been an advocate for public libraries as a member of the Lititz Public Library Friends Group for the past 20 years. She currently serves on the board of the Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries (PCBL). As a PCBL board member, she contributed to the establishment of an Annual Friends Institute, which has attracted over 100 PA library friends who share ideas for bringing renewed commitment and vibrancy to the public libraries they serve. Grimsley’s work as an Independent Writer focuses on writing marketing communications and resumes. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Ursinus College as well as an MS Degree in Counseling Psychology from Loyola College. Her additional community service includes serving on the Lititz Borough Civil Service Commission.
Accolades for Partners and Sponsors
Special mention of The Lancaster Ice Rink as a Summer Reading sponsor for the past 10 years will occur at the event. The National Watch & Clock Museum will also receive honors for their 10-year participation in the Family Museum Pass Program, while the Lancaster Science Factory will mark their 5-year partnership. New Education Partners: Make717 Innovation Center: STEM Maker Pass and CHI St. Joseph Children’s Health will be acknowledged for their contributions to public libraries in the County. Water’s Edge Miniature Golf & Ice Cream Shop has come on board as a 2017 SRP partner.
Special praise will go to Joe Miller, owner of The Comic Store in Lancaster for raising funds to support Local Libraries and the Bookmobile Graphic Novel Collections during his annual Free Comic Book Day that takes place on the first Saturday in May. He also generously participated in the 2016 Extra Give campaign by hosting the Bookmobile at his store location while offering free comics to those who visited and donated to the Bookmobile during the November 18th campaign date.
