About The Grey Wolf

Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté.  As he sits with his wife Reine-Marie in their back garden, he receives a phone call that sets him in a rage, which shatters the calm of their quiet morning. The call propels Chief Inspector Gamache and his team toward a terrible realization.  Something much more sinister than any one murder or any one case is fast approaching.  That’s only the first in a sequence of strange events that begin A missing coat, an intruder alarm, a note for Gamache reading “this might interest you”, a puzzling scrap of paper with a mysterious list–and then a murder.  Armand Gamache gathers a team of old friends who take their pursuit across Québec and its borders. Their hunt grows increasingly desperate.  If they fail, the devastating consequences will reach into the largest of cities and the smallest of villages—including Three Pines.

About The Author

Louise Penny is a Canadian author of mystery novels set in the Canadian province of Quebec centered on the work of francophone Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Québec. She resides outside a small village south of Montreal, quite close to the American border. She came to writing later in life. Her first book, Still Life, was written when she was 40.  Before being published she was a journalist and radio broadcaster with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. She credits her late husband, Michael, for his support and inspiration in having the freedom to write.
