Antarctica: A Grand Tour in Nature

AntarticaThe Milanof-Schock Library is pleased to present this month’s Life-long Learners program:  Antarctica: A Grand Tour in Nature.  It will be held on Monday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m.

The presentation will be given by world travelers Barbara and Peter Hunsberger who adventured a 21-day cruise through Antarctica led by naturalist Brian Keating of the Calgary Zoo. They will include a discussion of expedition cruising, environmental issues, history and the wildlife of the region. The couple will also share personal photos of the landscape and wildlife.

“The landscape includes vistas of mountains of snow-covered rock rising straight from the sea, vast icebergs seven miles long, hundreds of thousands of birds, and whales and seals cruising next to or under your zodiac,” the couple shares. ” We often observed birds and animals approach us to within a few feet as we stood still in awe. The variety and the astonishing numbers of birds and animals are beyond belief.  Antarctica above all is a mystical and magical place that calls you back for further adventures.”
