Intro to Sailing Offered at the Library!

Sail BoatThe Manheim Township Public Library, at 595 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster, offers a series of four programs entitled, “Introduction to Sailing.”   This course offered on Tuesday evenings, 6:30 – 8:00 PM from March 15 through April 5, is for those who are interested in learning about sailing, those who currently sail and wish to become more comfortable with the language of sailing, and for those who are seriously thinking about taking up the sport of sailing.  It will cover types of sailboats, their characteristics and parts, the language of sailing, running and standing rigging, sails and how they work, useful sailing knots and line handling, rules of the road, basic navigation, weather and how to get started in sailing.

Instructor James Brener is certified by the American Sailing Association in Basic Sailing, Basic Keelboat Sailing, and Bareboat Chartering.  He has sailed extensively on the Potomac River and now sails and overnights all over the Chesapeake Bay.  In addition, Mr. Brener has chartered and sailed in the British Virgin Island several times and also on the San Francisco Bay and Long Island Sound.  He is a member of the Catalina C34 International Association and is a past Fleet Captain of the Fleet 12 Sailing Association on the Chesapeake Bay.
