The Lancaster Medical Heritage Museum preserves and shares one of the most extensive collections of medical artifacts in the region, with over 11,000 objects that reflect centuries of healing practices in Lancaster County and beyond. The museum’s exhibits trace the evolution of medicine from ancient traditions to modern science, spotlighting everything from 19th-century surgical instruments and apothecary cabinets to rare anatomical illustrations and public health campaigns.
The museum also features a rotating series of educational displays and research-driven exhibitions curated in collaboration with medical professionals, historians, and student interns. Among the highlights are collections focused on early pharmacy, pseudoscientific medicine, Pennsylvania Dutch folk healing, and the legacy of Lancaster’s hospitals and healthcare providers.
The museum is dedicated to promoting public understanding of the medical past while honoring the diverse communities, innovations, and ethical debates that have shaped healthcare throughout history.
