One Book, Every Young Child Campaign at Public Libraries!

ONe Book, Every Young Child Logo Lancaster County’s public libraries will participate in the 11th annual One Book, Every Young Child statewide early learning initiative, to highlight both the importance of early literacy development in preschoolers, ages 3-6 years and specifically the vital role that adults have fostering that development.  The initiative is a collaborative effort of Pennsylvania public libraries, museums, early childcare centers and other youth-oriented associations in the Commonwealth. This year’s book selection is Kite Day: A Bear and Mole Story written and illustrated by Will Hillenbrand.

Kite Day: A Bear and Mole Story by Will HillenbrandAbout the 2016 Book Selection: Kite Day: A Bear and Mole Story
They’re off! Sam is the best race-car driver in history – he is number one at every race! But when his best friend, Maggie, shows that she has racing talent of her own, Sam doesn’t know how to handle coming in second place. Will he learn what it truly means to be a winner?

Multiple copies of the book will be available for checkout at Lancaster County public libraries and the bookmobile.

During the months of April and May, public libraries around the county will host special “Kite Day: A Bear and Mole Story” story time celebrations that will incorporate reading the selected book along with themed-related concepts and activities and other teaching tools to stretch children’s exploration and learning.
